RAM UPGRADE
I am trying to upgrade the momery on inspiraion 400 it has 512 memory right now, but I am trying to install 2 GB. According to Dell rep., she said I had to remove old memory and place new memory where it was. Is this true? Can someone please help me?

Yes that's right. Notebooks have only 2 slots for memory. If you mean you have an I 4000, you already have the max memory and you cannot upgrade. So save your money for a new computer. There is no model Inspiron 400, so I assume you mean 4000. Go to crucial.com and get the complete info on your model.

Yes I do have Dell Dimension 9150. When I ordered the new memory from Dell the rep., stated that I had to remove the old one first before installing the new RAM Memory. Is this information correct?

OK thank you for your help, so all I have to do is place the 2 memory cards that were sent me and reconnect everything and turn on pc and all shoudl be fine?

No, that is not correct.
Assuming that installed 512mb of memory is 2 x 256mb modules, as the 9150 has 4 memory slots and providing the new memory is compatible, you can install the 2 x 1gb modules in the two open slots and this should give you a total of 2.5gb of memory.

Basically, yes. that's all you need to do and providing the memory is compatible, the 9150 should start, after the installation you can check in the system setup the amount of memory that's recognized.
BUT, please first read the procedures in the link I posted, for installing the memory modules.

Ok I did everything it said and when I went to check if it took it still show the old amount of memory. Why?

Have you booted the 9150?
You can check in the system setup [ on start] to see if the memory is recognized.

Did you first start and then reboot the PC, before checking the system setup?
Were the memory modules fully inserted into the slots and the securing clips snap into the cutouts at each end of the modules.
