Reformatting Sigmatel question

I have Dimension 9100 Desktop XP SP2

I have previously reformatted several times and installed the Sigmatel Audio driver although when installing it it says not found on PC   -  I will be installing the Sound Audigy driver from its CD

So this time should I install it  on the FAQ it said to install the Sigmatel before installing the Sound Audigy but I belive the reference was to a Notebook and not a Desktop.

Is the Sigmatel driver needed ?

On doing a reinstall, you must first install the Intel Chipset drivers  DOWNLOAD HERE before installing device drivers such as the sound.   If you don't install the chipset drivers (which are for the motherboard) the sound drivers will report the "not found".

For future reference, the correct install sequence is (1) install Windows (2) install chipset drivers (3) install device drivers (e.g. the sound).

And if you have the SoundBlaster Advanced MB option, that is only a software enhancement to the Sigma-Tel and you must install the Sigma-Tel first.

Thanx

I will install in this order:

  1.  Intel storage Matrix

  2.  Dell system software

  3.  Chipset

  4.  Video

  5.  Nic

  6.  phone modem

  7.  Sigmatel Sound

  8.  Sound Audigy

       with restarts between each.

                   suggestions welcome   thanx  dynamo

As noted, #2 is the Intel chipset driver.  The rest is optional after that.
