I'm confused. If you have the latest DirectX, why are you getting a message that you dont have room to install it?
How much free space is available on the hard drive? Can you move some video, audio, and photo files off onto CDs or other external media to free up some space? Have you run chkdsk and defragged the drive lately ?
After that you may have to uninstall DirectX and reinstall a fresh download.

Start by telling us your PC model and version of Windows. If you're having trouble installing stuff, you might want to run thorough scans for malware before you do anything else.
Don't know what's telling you your drivers are outdated but you shouldn't have to pay for new drivers. Y can to download the most recent drivers for FREE from Dell's Drivers and Download page for your PC model. If you put in your Service Tag number it should give you a list of the most likely updated drivers that you need.
CNET has a free utility to uninstall DirectX if that becomes necessary.

Did you reformat the hard drive and do a clean install of XP?
Are you using Dell's driver update software? Or are you just using your browser? Click Support at the top of any forum page. If you're given the chance, insert your Service Tag number and you should be shown a list of suitable drivers. Download them with your browser onto your desktop and burn onto a CD.
Then go into Device Manager and find the listing for each device whose driver you want to update. Double-click on that device (eg video card) and select Drivers tab. Click Update Drivers. When the wizard opens, choose NO (do not allow it to connect to the internet).
On next screen, choose Install from a specific location.
On next screeen, choose "search for drivers in these locations, Then click Browse button and choose Desktop. It should find the driver for that hardware and install it.
BTW: The correct order for reinstalling XP on this system is, XP followed in order by:
Chipset driver (has to be first driver installed after XP!)
Video driver
Audio driver
Network driver
Modem driver
etc.
If you didn't install in the correct order. you may want to back up all your personal files on external media (eg, CDs) and start over again by reformatting the hard drive and reinstaling everything in the correct order. Read this for instructions on installing XP. Use the CD where you burned all the drivers to reinstall them after you reload XP.

If you used PC Restore (Ctrl-F11) to reset the hard drive to a clean install, that should have reinstalled all the drivers -unless the Restore image was damaged.
Have you tried contacting the company who wrote that game for help?
You should have gotten a set of CDs with the system, including the XP Reinstallation CD. You can request another set for free, if you're in the US, here.

thanks for your help i figured it out i went to desktop and then righted clicked then clicked on properites and clicked on the settings
tab and fixed the accelerator tab the slider was too low so i slid it higher and the video works and the game works and all is well
thanks anyway in the future if others have this issue maybe we can suggest the acceleration slider and tell them to do that.
