It's an all or nothing proposition: it either provides a true restoration of your software install as it was the day it left Dell's factory, or the utility will not run at all, because it has tested the integrity of the stored image and found it to be corrupted by its error standard.
The image deposited on your hard drive is placed in a hidden partition, and is unprotected. It can be corrupted by defragging, fdisking, and certain software installations that insist on writing to the end of the hard drive (where the image has been placed). While the utility itself is reliable by behavior, the image integrity is not reliable for very long at all.
I have seen reference here to an undocumented method of attempting to use the reportedly corrupted image, several days ago in this conference. Its use was reportedly successful part of the time, unsuccessful part of the time. You would have to search the posts for this method, if you would like to try it.
Yes, assuming that your original system image has not been corrupted.

Thanks.s Kay, I will not attempt it at this time,I will need to learna bit more about the computer. I am a novice at this time but learning from all the nice post by people such as your self,Denny and a number to many to mention, A BIG THANKS TO ALL
I had a problem with Resolution Assistant and tried zztop but my file was an "invalid dump" whatever that meant. Below is an email conversation I had with Dell support. (the original message is at the bottom)
To run either zztop or zz -zzdump (zz"space"-zzdump), go to a C:\ dos prompt, if you use WinME you need to create a boot disk to get there. WinME boot disk go to control panel/add remove program/startup disk tab, put a formatted/blank floppy disk in your A drive and create disk button.

No warranty problems there, you just refreshed the image of the
Hard Drive.
I would guess you may just be seeing server busy issues. We
have a lot of users out there! Stick with it : )
Thanx, Here's my next question tho: what is the difference between using
zztop at the command C:\ prompt in dos and using the zz -zzdump
I mean did the zz -zzdump change some foctory settings rendering my warrenty
void? or is it simply an override setting for zztop?
Just curious. Everything seems to be working again BUT...
That doggoned Resolution Assistant still doesn't function properly. The
images won't display and half the time I get "no system info" when I click
on fix my comp?
Hope you guys get the bugs worked out, it seems like a pretty useful tool
for comp problem solving.

Hello M.B.
Thank you for contacting Dell E-Support & Service (ESS) Technical
Support.
I understand you are asking about Dell RA connection. The Dell
Resolution Assistant displays error messages when it cannot connect
to Dell technical support. The following list explains some of
the error messages that can be seen and how to respond to them.
No Connection on Startup
Check to make sure that you specified the correct hostname for
Dell technical support when you installed the Resolution Assistant.
If the hostname is correct, contact Dell technical support to
check for network problems. Ensure that you do not have the Don't
connect to support provider option selected in the Support Tuner.
Connection Lost
Make sure that your network settings and/or dial-up network settings
are correct. If they are, ask your Internet Service Provider
and Dell technical support to check for network problems. Ensure
that you do not have the Don't connect to support provider option
selected in the Support Tuner.
Connection Status Shows an Hourglass
The hourglass means that the Resolution Assistant is attempting
to make a connection. You usually see the hourglass only when
the network is slow or you are on a slow modem connection.
Server Error When Submitting a Server Request
There is a problem with the Motive Server configuration. Contact
Dell technical support online at http://support.dell.com.
Respectfully,
Tom Donovan
