Remove System password

Dimension 4300 BIOS A06

I've looked in loads of threads but can't quite see this.

I have System and Setup passwords enabled. I know what they are so no problems with access etc.

I'd like to use the Auto Power On feature, but obviously need to disable the System Password, so the PC can boot on it's on (I'd like to leave the Setup password). I can't seem to disable the existing System password - exactly how is this done, as Ifind it a bit confusing.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

David

If you go to the System Security screen in the BIOS setup there should be an option to remove either or both passwords. You can also do it by using the jumper:

Peter,
Thanks. What happens is that you need to set the passwords to "Unlocked", and then when you save and exit setup, it prompts you to enter the password and then hit CTRL + ENTER if you want to disable the system password. This worked fine.

Essentially, I have been developing un unattended backup system which wakes the PC up at 02:00, does the backup to a memory stick (using Windows Scheduler, an MS-DOS batch file, Winzip and the Winzip command line add-on). It all seems to work OK, although the only down side is having to remove the system password, but you can't have everything :-)
