Remove write protection on a floppy
Hi there
I am trying to format a floppy disc and I keep getting a message that the disc is write-protected and I need to remove this before I can do anything. I slide the little tab on the disc into the other position to which it is in and I still get the same message. This is happening on all the floppys I try. Anyone understand why this is happening and what I must do to correct it?

If it is happening on ALL floppies then I would suspect a hardware problem in the floppy disk drive since the detecton of that is internal to the drive.
You can try uninstalling the drive in the Windows device manager then restart Windows and it will be detected and reinstalled but since it's not detecting that function on ANY diskette it sounds like you will have to replace the drive.

I suspect that they resolved this problem sometime in the 5 months since they posted it...
