Removing Dell Solution Center from Start Menu??

Mel,

There is nothing in MSCONFIG for Dell Solution Center. I am not actually trying to uninstall an app, but remove a Start Menu Icon for "Dell Solution Center"

It doesn't even launch an app, it just links to an HTML file (C:\DELL\DELLBUTN.HTM)

which will either take you to support.dell.com or to the Windows help.

How can I remove this icon?

You may disable the Dell solution center in the Microsoft Configuration Utitlity by clicking on Start | Run then type in MSCONFIG and press ENTER
Select the startup tab and remove the check for Dell Solution Center and click OK.

You may also uninstall the application with the following instructions:

Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
The Control Panel window appears.
Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
Look in the list of installed software for Dell Solution Center.
Click to highlight Dell Solution Center and then click the Add/Remove (or Change/Remove in Windows 2000) button and follow the rest of the instructions for uninstalling it.


If you wish to reinstall it later

Insert the Backup: Dell Installed Programs CD.
The Setup screen appears.
Click Finish.
An explanation of uses and restrictions for the Dell Backup CD appears.
Click Next.
The Dell Software License Agreement appears.
Click Accept to continue.
The Dell Solution Center installation window appears.
Click the Dell Solution Center icon in the left margin at the bottom of the window.
The Dell Solution Center icon will be highlighted.
Click Install.
An explanation on how to properly install the program appears.
Click OK.
Click OK again.
The InstallShield Wizard loads and the InstallShield Wizard appears.
Click Next.
The Choose Destination Location window appears.
Accept the default Destination Folder by clicking Next.
The Select Program Folder window appears.
Click Next again to have the proper Program Folder created.
The Setup Status window appears with a progress bar indicator.
When completed, the InstallShield Wizard Complete window appears.
Click Finish to complete the setup.

after hours of trying everything, and multiple forum posts here & elsewhere, I finally had to get into the registry to get the icon to go away for good...

Dell, make OEM add-in's easier to remove, please!!!

yep, but this is not in the program list on the left, rather it's a system icon on the right, along with My Computer, Search, etc.

Change from "Classic Start Menu" to " Start Menu" and it will work.

Right click on the task bar-left click Properties-on(Taskbar and Start Menu properties)
click (Start menu) click (customize) click (advanced) UNcheck the box that says
Manufacturers link . This works for me.

Under " Customize Start Menu" look in the middle of the menu-its under Help and
Support- you have to scroll down.

You are also missing the "Help and Support" option. Are both of these "Options"
still on your start menu ?

no, the Help & Support option was removed using TweakXP, but even when I put them back, there is still no "Manufacturer" option.. the only thing I did in the reg was remove the link to the icon... there is now just a big blank space which I still want to remove...
