Replace motherboard Dimension 8300

Dell Tech Spt told me that I need to replace the motherboard on my Dimension 8300.  I am no longer under warranty.  How do I get this done, are there any Dell stores i can bring my computer to or do i have to send it off somewhere?  How much might it run me?

First, make sure it's the mainboard - they've a habit of mis-diagnosing power supply issues as mainboard problems.

What are the symptoms?

If you need parts, you can order from Dell (see below) or from a Dell reseller like www.centrix-intl.com or www.impactcomputers.com. Replacing the mainboard is a 10 minute job that involves only a single screw. Replacing the power supply takes about the same time - just a few more screws to deal with. If you can't/won't do it, any computer shop in town can.

As far as I know, there are no Dell repair stores, you either replace the system board yourself or take to a local computer shop. You can buy a replacement board by calling Dell Spare Parts @ 1-800-357-3355 option 4, 4 M-F 7 to 7 CDT and have the system's "Service Tag" handy.

Dell's instructions for replacing the M/B of a D-8300 system.

A D-8300 system board, can also be purchased from here for $89.00.
