Replacing Optiplex CPU Fan
Hello everyone
I have a Dell Optiplex 760 SFF.
I wonder if anyone has had any success replacing an Optiplex CPU fan (plus heatsink if necessary) for something quieter? The installed fan is a bit loud for my liking and I wondered if a third party fan would work without generating irritating messages at bootup.
Another question relates to the HDD fan. I recently upgraded to a SSD and don't feel I need the fan anymore (and would like to lose the noise)
Alas, the machine has different ideas and it generates an annoying error message at bootup requesting I hit F1 to continue. There is nothing in BIOS (A16 version) to get rid of this.
Any advice would be warmly appreciated.
Best
David

The OptiPlex 760 SFF system fan and heat sink are Dell proprietary units, there are no third part components available that will fit the SFF chassis.
Unless the Dell fan is installed you receive the 'Alert! Previous Fan Failure. Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility' [or whatever] error message at every boot up.
