Saving as Wallpaper

My son scanned a really bad picture of me and saved it to wallpaper as a joke. Now every time I start or shut down this picture is displayed. I have tried everything I can think of to delete it, but can't figure it out. Please help!

Right mouse click on the picture (wallpaper) and it will bring up a menu option. Select Properties from the Menu. It should show you the filename used as the wallpaper. Select one of the other files in the list to use as your wallpaper. If you want to delete the actual file you could search for the filename and delete it from there.

Just right click on an empty space of the desktop and select properties. Under background chose any picture and then click apply, that should make the picture go away.

Not sure what you'd call it. It isn't the picture on my desktop, nor my screen saver. It shows only when I first start my computer and loads right after you see the Dell globe and then again when I shut down.

This isn't on my desktop. It's only in the background like where the Dell globe is when I start and shut down computer.

Is this picture not your Wallpaper? Right click anywhere between the icons on your desktop and choose properties. If you select another file from the list and click apply it should change it. If it's not your wallpaper then I need more info.

Hmmm. I know what your talking about now but I can't remember off-hand where that's set. If you know the filename you could search your registry and see if it shows up in some Startup type key but I don't know if that's your best option.

I knew someone would come to my rescue. Such a petty thing, but it was driving me crazy and he didn't know how he created it in the first place except he saved it to wallpaper.

First, and I cannot tell you how to do this in Win ME, be sure that you have all files set to be shown (Show All Files), and that you "show file extensions for known file types". In Win 98, this was located in Folder Options | View, but I don't know your location. Once this is done, go to Start | Find | Files or Folders and look for these three files (you may have only two of the three, since I'm not certain how many of them your son created):

logo.sys

logow.sys

logos.sys

The logo.sys file resides in your C:\ directory, otherwise called the root directory. The other two are going to be in C:\Windows.

When you find each one, double-click it to open it, and if it shows the image you don't like, right-click it and delete it. If it shows another image, leave it alone.

Just to explain, your son created new splash screens to appear when you startup, and either when your system is waiting to shutdown, or when it has shut down, or both. For sure the startup one, from what you say. That's the logo.sys file. I'm not certain, based on what you say, how he handled the others, if he did both of them using the same image, or chose to do only one, so I had you find the logow.sys (waiting to shutdown) and logos.sys files (shutdown) to see what's been done. One thing though--you'll need to replace the ones he put in, if you want splash screens, They aren't needed, but some people like them. End Edit.
