saving files to disk
Hi,
I am a newbie here. For almost a year, I have been trying find out why, when I try to save a file to CD, I get a message "Access denied. You do not have rights to do this."
Someone suggested something is wrong with my XP account, so I created a new account and the same thing happens with the new account. I am very frustrated. Does anyone know what is wrong?

Most programs will not write directly to a CD. You must first save the file to the hard drive and then, using your CD burning program you can copy it to a CD.
However, a CD-R or CD-RW cannot be used like a floppy diskette, even tho it appears it can. CD media was not designed to do this. Also, never have your "only copy" of data on a CD-RW disc as RW discs are known to be unstable and can lose data and/or format.

Since I can save a file directly to CD at the office, I thought I could do it at home. I guess at the office the LAN administrator has set it up differently?

I have no idea what program you are saving from and how your Computer tech has set things up. But on a standalone PC there are very few programs that will allow you to save directly to a CD, as they do not have the CD burning capabilities (program built into the program to burn CD's).
