Scandisk message
My scandisk keeps giving me these messages. The following files or folders are crosslinked.
C:\WINDOWS\Cookies\default@bingo(2).txt.
Several other .txt files follow like the above only are diff. after the @ symbol. All are windows\cookies.txt
Then the last file listed is as follows:
C:\_RESTORE\archive\FS576.cab
Then it tells me that a crosslink occurs when 2 or more files use the same cluster or area of a disk at the same time. Except in unusual circumstances, the data in a crosslinked cluster(s) is correct for only 1 of the files.
This message is followed by this list of options:
Give each file a seperate copy of shared cluster(s)
Delete all affected files
Truncate all files at the point of the crosslink
Keep selected file and delete others
Keep selected file and truncate others
Ignore error and continue.
I wasnt sure what to do so I ignored error and continued.
Another box pops up and says that
The allocation chain for 'default@63.68.164(1).txt' in the
C:\WINDOWS\cookies folder indicates that part of this file or folder is stored in an unvalid location. Your computer uses the allocation chain to track where each of your files and folders is stored. Then this list of options
Repair by truncaating file
Delete the affected file
Ignore this error and continue.
I ignored and continued again.
Then a box like the first one pops up with a list of more files of cwindowscookies txt files followed by just 1 C_restore archive cab file. None of these files are the same as in the first box that popped up. Scan disk was freezing up when I had the fix errors automatically box checked. So I un checked it . Help. I think that I could prob. delete alot of these files without any problems since they are cookie files. The crestorearchive, I'm not so sure about. Also not at all sure what to do about the allocation chain notice.
