I would just plug it in as a slave drive....depending on how big it is, maybe patition it in half

one partition for important backup only filles such as images of your HD, drivers etc.

the other for Scratch disk or whatever you want. I would point my documents to that drive SO just incase something happend to your main HD, atleast you'd still have my documents and backup stuff.

The drive still has Windows ME on it along with my other software. Do I need to re format it or can I just delete everything.

Can I reformat it from "My Computer" or does it have to be from dos.

Since you have XP, you can use Computer Management in Administrative Tools to format after installing.

right click my computer and select manage...then go to then click on " disk management " on the left column

If the HD is recognized in MY Computer, right click on the drive, select format. If the drive is not recognized, you may have to set primary slave to Auto in the bios setup.
