Second p3/1000/133/256k/1.7v SL4BS processor needed

I'm shopping on Ebay right now for some dual processor stuff and in fact looking at a Dell dual processor motherboard (and trying to figure out the specs on it, I know it's an Intel 820 chipset but that's about it)  Anyways, why don't you just get a socket 370 to slot 1 adaptor?  The adaptor has a socket 370 right on the thing and it plugs right into the slot 1.  Supports the coppermine cpu's no problem and it states it's dual processor compatible.  You would obviously want to use a cpu that's uses the same cache size, speed, etc.. I finally bought a second processor for my Preccision 420, but this one has a round heatsink with a fan sitting on top of it. Does any one know where in motherboard this fan can be plugged.

You most likely bought a socket 370 fc-pga processor and not a slot SECC cartridge processor.  Not to worry too much, there are adaptors that convert a socket cpu to make it slot compatible.  Check the link in my first post there to link to what you would need.  I would make sure that is the case though first.  Check the 5 digit spec number against Intel's sight here  http://processorfinder.intel.com/scripts/default.asp  Look for the "package type" I believe is how they list it in the specs.  The sSpec # would start with sl xxx  something or other. 

Edit:  Oh I may have misunderstood you.  The original processor doesn't have any fan on it and this one does?  The fans plug into three pin headers on the board that are labeled "cpu fan" or any of the fan plugs.  Your board does have fan plugs does it not?  if not they do make 3 to 4 pin adaptors to plug it straight into your power supply.

Well, the power supply plugs will be bigger four pin "molex" connectors.  It's what plugs into your harddrive and CD-ROM drives.  You can get an adaptor that will plug a 3 pin fan connector into the bigger four pin plug.  Or they also make straight 3-pin "Y" splitters.  Just plug both the fans into the one motherboard header.  It should be able to handle those particular fans.  However, running two fans off one motherboard header isn't recommended.  You can burn out a header if you pull too much juice and that would be a bummer.  There are lots of options actually.  I end up making any adaptor I need but I'll solder my sunglasses in a second if they broke or anything else for that matter.    I end up plugging all my case fans (except for my cpu fans) into a manual fan controller with knobs on it mounted in my floppy bay where I can manuall control the output of the case fans, point being is that one 4-pin molex plug feeds power to all my case fans.  The 3-pin fans plug straight into the thing.  If I were you, I would either look for another header on the board mabye made for a system fan and use a 3-pin extension cable, use a 3-pin "Y" splitter on that one motherboard header if you don't think the fans are that high output or I think the best bet is leave the one fan where it's at on the cpu fan header and find a 3 to 4 pin adaptor and plug that second fan into a plug made for a CD-ROM or harddrive.  You should have extra molex plugs available from your power supply not plugged into anything?  Just like this adaptor:  http://www.svc.com/3pinto4pinad.html  Or you can get fancy with it like us young guys  http://www.svc.com/34pin6-blu-12.html.  Well, actually I don't have anything like that now I'm a bit too old for that but once upon a time before it became so mainstream.  We didn't have adaptors actually made to be UV reactive, that's cheating!  We had to be a bit more creative.  Anyways, that's what I would do.  Check out that sight, they have just about every adaptor you could think of for fans.  Good prices on fans too.  Changed all my fans to Panaflo's.  No lights but good quality and quiet.  It sure pays when you have like 10 fans in your tower.  good luck. 

I don't own a Dell workstation but I just received my OEM Intel OR840 chipset dual PIII board still new never used and a couple 1000mhz 133mhz cpu's fc-pga and a couple slot adaptors.  I'm not sure what chipset your workstations run, I would be curious.  I haven't gotten mine to boot yet.  This board also runs dual channel PC800 rambus and I'm only using 16-bit 256mb sticks (2) and a couple crimms, not anything too dense.  Problem is the board didn't come with the slot retainer clips so trying to test this board the cpus are not "locked" in.  But I'm thinking either the cpu's run too high voltage at 1.75v or it needs a BIOS flash and I may have to try my matched pair of 733mhz chips just for testing.  However, This board does have an AGP 4x slot and I've either got a new 9800pro 8x agp card or a Sis 2x agp 8mb card and mabye neither of them are compatible?  Too many factors so far.  Wish me luck.   Any suggestions are welcome, I just hope I didn't get a bunk board.  This may be a Dell OEM board by the way?
