Serious problems with my computer

I have several problems with my computer. I am usually able to fix all my computer-related problems, but this time I am unable to.

One day, for no apparent reason, my computer started going extremely slow for the first time since I bought it about 2 years ago. It is a DELL Dimension 8200 1.8GHz. I was able to fix this problem, but then I found more problems. This problem was due to my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card, which I un-installed and was able to fix the problem.

All my printer files were deleted, and I cannot Add a Printer: "Operation could not be completed."
All my internet connection settings were deleted, and I cannot Make a New Connection.
I have no sound. When I re-install Santa Cruz and its drivers, I still have no sound. I perform a SoundCheck and it fails on hardware check, software check, and restoring defaults. It fails on all exams on my sound card.

I scanned for viruses, I performed scandisk, and I tried System Restore, but I have no Restore Points.

Can anyone please help me???
Thank you very much, Nick

(Please do not send an automatically-generated help message, they have not worked for me)

Try an on line scan from Symantec and post back with your results. Some virii can delete files and disable virus scanning engines.

There was no Dimension 8200 two years ago.  In June, 2001 ... I purchased a Dimension 8100 (the highest model at the time).  I do not believe the 8200 came out until the Fall of 2001.

Anyway, in the past ... users of this forum have reported problems installing drivers for the Santa Cruz sound card.  The first thing to check, is to make sure you are using the latest version of the Dell supplied Santa Cruz driver.  It can be downloaded from Dell's support site (under the download tab).

If you suspect things are really out of shape ... you might want to consider doing a complete reformat and reinstall of Windows.  This will give you a clean start and if problems persist ... it might be a hardware issue.
