Seriously, how do I disable on board intel graphics
Please help,
I have a Jaton graphics card with the GeForce 5700 FX. I want to install it into my 4500s, but it appears I cannot disable the integrated Intel 845 device.
I read some of the previous posts and I saw one page posted by the moderator that looked like the answer, but it was not.
I have done the following:
1) disabled the Intel device in the device manager
2) removed the Intel drivers with the add/remove programs control
3) set the VGA setting to "On Board"
4) correctly installed the PCI card into an open slot
5) restarted the computer (note the VGA setting was "on board" so I still used the old VGA connector)
6) confirmed the card is recognized by the computer
7) Restarted the computer
8) set VGA to Auto in the bios
9) re-booted with the monitor connected to the PCI connector
Still nothing.
I have done any number of combinations of the above steps, but the computer always gives me a black screen whenever I try to boot with the VGA setting in Auto and the PCI card in.
Everything can be set back to use the integated graphics, but I can never, never make the PCI card work. The dell gets confused. It seems impossible to disable the Intel 845...
Please tell me how to do this.

Disabling the video may not be absolutely necessary. See post 9 in the following thread:

You won't be able to see the bios startup screen, but it is a way to get Windows to use the card.
If you want to keep trying to use the conventional way to install the card, you may need to trick Windows into loading a VGA driver before you try to install the card. The card shows nothing because it either has no driver, or its bad. If you use a VGA driver to begin with, the card should display something, though the resolution will only be 640X480; standard VGA. The moderator's instructions are geared toward getting this driver loaded. Starting from a working onboard video, you make sure that the bios is set to Auto, go to the Windows device manager and using the properties window of the Intel Graphics Adapter, put a check in the "Do Not Use This Device" box. On restarting the machine you should get the VGA driver to load. Shut the computer down, install the card, and see if you get a display. If not, try switching the slot. On my D2400 I have trouble using PCI slot 1 because it shares the hardware interrupt with the onboard graphics device. If you get a display with the card in either slot, make certain that you cancel any Found New Hardware wizards that open up, wait for the machine to finish its boot process, and then put the installation disk in the CD drive. Follow the on screen instructions to complete.
