Shutdown/power off question

I have a Demension, Pent 200 that i bought used, I think it came from Dell with Windows 95, I loaded 98 on it and when i try to shut it down, it stops on the Windows is shutting down screen. You can hear the hard drive do its thing and it just sits there waiting for you to hit the power button. When you turn it back on,everything seems like it had a normal shut down(does not run scan disk). It acts like windows thinks the computer is able to turn itself off like the newer computers. Anyone with any ideas????

I think this is a Win 98 issue as so many people have this problem. I believe it has something to do with a driver not shutting down when Windows is trying to shut down. You can try updating your drivers for video card, sound card, etc. and see if that can help. I've also heard that if you have DSL, it could be the drivers for the modem. There is a patch, too, on the Microsoft site for the "shut-down" issue. I've done everything, and it shuts down correctly most of the time, but I still have the occasional hang. When it happens, I push the reset button and restart it and then it always shuts down properly after that. Good Luck, Sandy
