slow down

Question

Ever since I did an improper shut down on my Dimension 8200/with cable connection it has gotten extremely slow no matter what I am doing on it. I've shut down improperly before without this happening so why has it made such a difference this time. The only other thing I've done differently lately was to add a music site (Kazaa) to download music but have since taken it off and put all the music on cd's in an attempt to fix the computer problem. I've also transferred anything I don't need onto floppy to see if that would help but it didn't.

Go to http://lavasoft.nu/downloads.html . Download and install the latest version of Ad-Aware. Run it and let in remove all the spyware that Kazaa installed on your machine.

if you look up kazaalite you will find that this is spyware free! try it and it should stop the pc slowing down.........i would uninstal the normal kazaa cause it just add so many programs that run in the back ground and i find them unstable

I believe the concensus is that Kazaalite is indeed spyware free - but Kazaa most certainly is not clean. And uninstalling Kazaa will still leave most of the spyware still installed.

Thanks so much for your help. I did go to Ad-Aware and downloaded their program. It has improved the speed on my computer a great deal. It is still a tad slow but I won't complain as I can manage with it's present speed.

Thanks alot. I went to the processes tab and checked. It said dellmmkb is using 1,720 k. Is that OK? Really this computer should be running must faster still. My friend has a dell 8100 and hers is way faster than this one has been lately-even since the AD-Aware fix. By the way, I still have one program on my computer since the fix that I'm not sure should be there. It's called Gain and has something to do with advertizing. Anyone know what it's purpose is and how to get rid of it if I don't need it? charliegirl

Another thing to check if this machine is running Windows XP; Cntrl-Alt-Del to bring up the Task Manager. Select the Processes tab and confirm that dellmmkb is not using 90+ % of the CPU time.

Hmmmm, I wonder why Ad-Aware doesn't remove it then? How do I get it off my system?
