Soundcard not detected

Hi I have a Dell Dimension 4400 desktop and recently downloaded the latest driver update for the soundblaster live value digital 1024 soundcard from the Creative Website..However the installation wizard could not find any soundcard installed on my computer. I checked with Device Manager and everything was in order and working properly. The Creative website could not offer any solution for this problem ececpt to say that it might be an OEM device and I must check with the manufacturer of the desktop. Can anyone assist with a solution for this problem?

Did you uninstall the old driver first from Add/Remove programs? Is this a card that you purchased retail or from Dell? If it came installed on your computer from Dell try the Dell supplied driver.

If you have a Dell OEM version card, you can only use Dell drivers/updates.  The Retail drivers will not detect a SoundBlaster product.  Is this the issue you have?

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your quick response. I did not uninstall the driver and yes this came with the computer(DELL).The SoundBlaster product was included in the DELL package. I am trying to update the SoundBlaster driver with a SoundBlaster driver update. The soundcard came preinstalled with the computer.

Then you have a "Dell custom" version of the SoundBlaster card and can ONLY use Dell drivers and updates.

Thanks Fireberd for the advice...guess I will just have to look around for an updated driver from DELL and see how it goes after that.
