I partioned my hard drive with Windows98se for my older programs, but I can't seem to find a driver that will work. This is a Dell Optiplex GX270. Please help.

My guess is that these drivers are the right ones.

For some reason I still can't seem to get the sound driver to install\work.  I've installed the sound driver along with;

Audio: ADI 1985 5:12.1.3713 21.4 MB 29 Oct 2003,

Audio: QFE Update QFE#269601 373 KB 23 Sept 2002

and I still get the error msg;  "DSndUP error.  No ADI codec driver is installed", after I restart the pc after installing the driver.

Is there a certain way I need to install this, or am I missing something?  What else do I need to install?

Dale

I hate to bump a thread, but my teacher is breathing down my neck on this very same issue. I know people who were unable to find drivers last term in our class, and we are faced with the same dilemma. I'm using the Dell Optiplex GX270 and the SoundMax drivers do not work with it! I've also scourged the net for drivers and tried at least two, but neither of them will work. I'm beginning to think that the drivers are not supported with Windows 98 SE... Can anyone confirm this, or does anyone have drivers that work? I could use an answer either way...

you will need to install the chipset first. And everything you need to know about putting windows 98 on a gx270 is covered in this thread...

For audio Some have had luck with these drivers.  I highly recommend re-patching with the Audio QFE patch after installing these.

Windows 98Gold/98se/Me/2000/XP for Driver only. For Windows 98 SE,
DirectX(R)8 is required to enable advanced features.
