Speed up internet?

Question

Recently I heard of a download called TweakDUN that will supposedly speed up your internet connection. I was wondering if this is true or if there are better alternatives to this question? I have a 3com 56k modem on a dimension 450 with 128 RAM. Another point is that I am hooked up through a college server if that makes any difference.

Hey....are you talking about getting onto the internet or speeding up the opening of web pages, etc......if it is the latter, any help you get, would help me to...have a new XPS 700mhz (whatsahurtz), and the opening of web pages is painfully slow....let me know if you come up with a solution....Thanks...

I am trying to speed up opening webpages. I also thought that with a higher speed computer that webpages would open quicker. I swear that a friend of mine's computer that is a 233 opens pages quicker than mine. I still don't have a solution to the problem yet but hope to find one.

I don't know about TweakDUN, but I use something called Netsonic. Doesn't speed up the initial connection, but does speed up downloads of sites and pages after you're connected, especially for frequently-visited sites, since it caches the pages you visit. Easy to find at shareware.com or download.com. Another possibility might be SpeedTec, which optimizes your machine's DUN settings.

Marvin, Here's another tip. Use the lean, clean Opera browser instead of big ol' clunky IE or Netscape. It's at www.operasoftware.com, and is a noticeably faster browser. ---Bud
