stack overflow

Upon booting, received this message "Terminating thread due to a stack overflow problem. A VxD, possibley recently installed, has consumed too much stack space. Increase the setting of 'MinSP's in System.IND or remove recently installed VxD's. There are currently 5 SP's allocated."
I have no clue what this is ,why or what I should do.
Any help?
Thanks

Go to Start > Run then type in 'msconfig' (without the quotes). When the window comes up click on the System.ini Tab, then the + sign next to the [386Enh] section and see if there is an entry that looks like:

MinSPs=5

If there is, hightlight the line, click Edit, then change the 5 to a 10.

If the line isn't there then hightlight the [386Enh] line then click 'New'. When the little box appears type in:

MinSPs=10

Then hit return, Okay out, then reboot.

It's hard to say specifically. A stack page is a 4K set aside that the system uses to store the 'stack', or put another way, to store things internal to the operating system or applications. Certain programs seem to take more stack pages, or parts of stack pages, than other programs and that causes the system to run out, thus the error you saw. I doubt there's any association between the stack overflow problem and other problems you may be experiencing with Dial-up or Norton. For Norton though, experience at work has shown me that you DON'T want to run any of the Auto this and that that Norton tries to load.
