System Cache Problem
I installed another 512 megs of RAM a couple days ago to bring my total to 1024. When I open task manager, it shows all of the ram installed and the ram that's available, but the system cache is way low after a restart. I don't know what the system cache is and what it does but I seem to remember it being about equal to the ram that's available. Right now, it starts low and then builds up slowly to about the same as the available ram. I'm not sure yet if I can tell if there is any performance difference, but I think there may be. Is this normal, or am I just insane? If it's not normal, what should I do to fix it?
Also, I'm having a tad bit of trouble with my USB printer. If I ever disconnect it and reconnect it, I have to reinstall all the software. It's really annoying. I've got a Lexmark X75. I've had other printers on a different computer and never had to do this. What gives? Thanks for any help you all can offer. G'night!

" When I open task manager, it shows all of the ram installed and the ram that's available, but the system cache is way low after a restart."
The System Cache shows the current physical memory used to map pages of open files. XP automatically releases the system cache memory when it's needed by the operating system or other programs.
" Right now, it starts low and then builds up slowly to about the same as the available ram."
Windows XP uses as much physical (RAM) as possible to cache programs and data.
