Temp. Internet files -nt

Hi,

It is recommended that most people use either the utility in My Computer | Control Panel | Internet Options | General tab to empty the files or use the Disk Cleanup utility in Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools to do it. Either of these will remove enough of the files so that what remains is not a problem.

Experienced users can empty the folder in DOS, but it is recommended and highly cautioned that one know very well what one is doing before trying this method. The Windows method is safe and really does do a good enough job for most purposes.

I am unable to find such a script which is guaranteed to work with Win ME; the problem here is how much of DOS is still accessible in this OS.

Any batch file that works in DOS will work if you boot to DOS with an emergency boot disk, but this isn't all that convenient.

I did find this article which may work for you in ME; Steve (volcano11) may want to look at this for you to see what he thinks of it: PC World. I have no experience with ME to know if this will work under this OS or not, I'm afraid, and everything else I found involved running the file in pure DOS.

Just to add to the excellent advice of KayH, if the reason you are emptying the Temp. Inertnet files is to gain hard disk space, this will be only a short term solution, because as soon as you start browsing the web again, the cache, as it is called, will just fill up again. You can, however, limit the size of the cache on the same Internet Properties screen by clicking on the "Settings" button. Of course, the less space you give to the cache, the slower will be your browsing, since more things will have to be downloaded every time you visit a site.

Without trying it, I don't know if it will work or not. All I can say is try it. If it works, you've got your solution. I have yet to find a dos command that doesn't work in ME, although I am sure there are some.
