Thermal shutdown

Machine running most recent BIOS revision. Running either Norton Ghost or Drive Image software to create backup images. Applications both boot to DOS sessions to create image but machine shutdowns mid image creation. On restart BIOS message - unexpected shutdown due to Thermal Event ??

Any ideas

make sure the heatsink/fan assembly is seated correctly and working...  don't have an opti, but it sounds like the CPU (or perhaps something else with a shutdown sensor) is getting too warm

What machine is this and what case size?  Have you added any new hardware recently? Does the machine run in Windoze OK?   Older Dells have special fans and thermal shut downs are caused when the motherboard doesn't detect the fan - or a replacement processor draws too much current.
