Trying to boot from USB

I have a XPS 400 running windows xp, motherboard is Dell DXP051, Bios A07. I am trying to boot from a flash drive via USB I have gone into my Bios and have selected to Boot from USB 1st and everytime I try to boot from it my computer freezes. I have no problem booting my laptop and my other Dell from USB but for some reason my main computer just won't work. I also tried updating my Bios and I'm still having the same problems. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Hello,

This is from the documents for your system ...

NOTE: The computer attempts to boot to all bootable devices but if no bootable device is found, the computer generates the No boot device available error message. Press the key to retry the boot, or press the key to enter the setup utility.
  • USB Flash Device — Insert the memory device into a USB port and restart the computer. When F12 = Boot Menu appears in the upper-right corner of the screen, press . The BIOS detects the device and adds the USB flash option to the boot menu.
NOTE: To boot to a USB device, the device must be bootable. To ensure that your device is bootable, check the device documentation.

Thanks for the reply,

I tried that and still have the same problem. When I press it asks me which device to boot from and I select USB and then it freezes. I know the USB device is bootable becuase I can boot from it on my other 2 computers.

I have a similar issue in that I have purchased a 16GB Flash drive from A-Data.... I used diskpart to create the partition andformat the device.. Ithen loaded PE 2.0 onto the device... It boots up just fine on all Dell desktops.. All the laptops hang after F12 has been pressed. I never get a boot list.... Have tried also on other brand laptops and they all boot up just fine on the device.. Has anyone encountered this issue?
