unknown devices under Win2k
I just freshly installed Win2k Pro, and I have 2 unknown devices that didn't install; 1 is an unknown PCI device and another is just unknown. Everything is installed and functioning correctly (ie. modem, network card, sound card, video card, controllers, chipset). Additionally, I tried uninstalling them and allowing Windows to redetect them, but that didn't work. What devices are these, and where can I get drivers for them?

If you had an "E" support button on the front of your computer that could be one of your unknown devices, I don't even think Dell uses the Solution Center any more. But the drivers are here;

You need to install the Intel 850 chipset drivers in order to get rid of the PCI Device. These drivers should actually be installed before any other device drivers after performing an OS install. You'll find directions here.

Thanx. I installed the newest drivers from Intel's site. However, I still am looking at 2 "unknown devices." Any more ideas?

As I stated, the Intel 850 chipset drivers will remove the PCI device from device manager and need to be installed before any other device drivers. You mentioned that you'd installed the newest drivers from Intel's site. Two questions for you: 1) What was the name of the driver file you downloaded from Intel's site and 2) Why didn't you use the 850 chipset driver on your Resource CD? The reason the chipset drivers need to be installed first is both lengthy and fairly technical so I'll spare you the details, but suffice it to say that if other drivers are installed before the chipset then the chipset drivers usually won't install or operate correctly.
As for the unknown device, it has nothing to do with the 850 chipset. You need to install the metolious vendor-defined sensor driver for the e-support button in order to get rid of it. You'll find this driver in the apps\DSC\support\MetDrv directory on your Backup Dell Installed Programs CD.
