upgrade DIM 9200 question

Yes, and the psu should be more than enough to handle it since it can power the 8800 GTX.

The cards required power supply is at least 450W and above, the 9200 is only at 375W. Will it still work?

Sorry for the late reply, you do know that Dell offer's the 8800GTX ( a card that uses slightly more power than the ATI )as an upgrade option with the 9200/XPS410 right ? And also that they do not do psu upgrades ?

Try to look past the wattage reccomendation and concentrate on the amperage, it is the more important spec. The 30 amp output of the Dell 375w meet's the reccomendations for the card.

I have a recent Dim 9200 and I added a 8800GTS 320MB Vid Card to it...no problems.  I would rather have the 8800GTS then any ATI card at this time.  The 8800GTS "Requires" a 425w PSU and the 375w Dell one handles it just fine.

Ok, I think I might go with 8800 ultra instead of GTX and it has a higher power requirement, will it still be feasible?

 

Also, I just found out that I only have one PCIe power connector and the GTX and ultra has 2 connectors. Do I need to have another connector?

 

On this review here: http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=319&type=expert&pid=8 ........it says to have the 2 connectors plug or else it will make a beeping sound.

On paper it will work. The Ultra OC uses roughly 2 amps more power than the GTX, and the standard Ultra uses about 1 more amp.

Dell uses a PCIE splitter in order to connect to both of the power ports on the GTX, these can sometimes be found on Newegg or I suppose through Dell. Or you could use the molex to PCIE splitter that comes with the card.

The one P10 is the only extra connector you would need, plug in 1 side of the splitter that comes with your card, attach to card and you should be good, no modifications needed.

 

Some people prefer to purchase this cable instead of using the splitter that is included with the card

Awesome!!! I thought that I have to use the 2 4-pin connectors that the card came with. It's all set then, I can go ahead and use the P10 and the one PCIE to power the card. Thanks man, I'm so grateful for the help. :smileyvery-happy:
