Upgrading Inspiron 530 Processor

Hi

I'm new to this forum, and as well as in computers, so bare with me.

I have Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual  CPU  E2160  @ 1.80GHz, 1800 Mhz, 2 Core(s) and I'm trying to upgrade the CPUs so I can play smoothly when it comes to playing modern games, notably Starcraft II.

So what are some CPUs that are compatible with my PC?

As your 530 was purchased with a Core 2 Duo/ Dual Core processor and a 300w power supply, it usually has a 0RY007 motherboard, that supports Core2 Duo/Pentium Dual Core/Celeron processors only.

The following processors are compatible, with the 0RY007/Foxconn G33M02 motherboard:

Wolfdale Dual Core E7300, 2.66, 3MB, 65W, M0
Wolfdale Dual Core E8190, 2.66G, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65Watt, C0
Wolfdale Dual Core E8200, 2.66G, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, C0
Wolfdale Dual Core E8300, 2.83G, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, C0
Wolfdale Dual Core E8400, 3.00G, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, C0
Wolfdale Dual Core E8400, 3.00G, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, E0

The E5700 was introduced after the E5400 and E6300 (Wolfdale) models, so they would be compatible, too. All of them are discontinued, so I'd suggest eBay.

I have an E6300 (Wolfdale) in my 220s, which shares its motherboard with the 530.

Sorry, but prior to installing the processor, you will still need to upgrade to BIOS Version 1.0.16.

The instructions for both downloading and installing, are on the Dell Inspiron 530 download site, here:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/555/DriverDetails/Product/inspiron-530?driverId=N73YW&osCode=WLH&fileId=2731108828&languageCode=en

Use the 'Run the BIOS update utility from Windows environment'.

Please read the instructions carefully, as a failed, or corrupted BIOS flash can cost you a new motherboard.
