Upgrading inspiron 570

Asking for advice is very good idea while I am still around. Unfortunately right now I am on my way to work, will be back to you tomorrow. Just 1 question right away. Are you planning to remove MOBO backplate to mount Arctic CPU cooler? And how you wasted previous MOBO?

If it's a factory Dell board, sounds good.

Are there any coolers that will work with the 965 which will fit into the Inspiron without removing the backplate?  

Hello, I decided to be smart this time and see what the dell community thinks about this. I will be buying new hardware for my inspiron 570. As well as a new mobo, i broke my other one haha. Along with the new 570 mobo ($35 ebay) I will be purchasing: AMD II x4 965 Black Edition quad core processer(already purchased) not over clocking Arctic freezer 7 pro cpu fan($17.99 newegg) Cooler master elite 460 power supply ($29.99 newegg) Tell me if this sounds like a good way to go. I am planning on purchasing these soon so the sooner the better :).

What you list there is OK.

Unless some one attempts to attach IceEdge to Dell MOBO we would not know - IceEdge mounting looks like possible to attach to Dell MOBO, but this is just a guess.

Arctic freezer 7 pro attached to MOBO by push pins, kinda insecure method I seen CPU cooler falling because of this. It is cheaper than IceEdge, however it would provide just enough cooling abilities, don't expect very good results. Also, only 1 fan can be used, and this is big minus. So, I would not recommend this part!

Thanks for the replies, I will go with the iceedge. Though you say the IceEdge may need a backplate removal? I was going to do this but I decided not to. I had bought the Cooler Master Hyper 212 plus and was going to put it in but it was a pain in the rear. So I put everything back together and my mobo didn't work. All i know on how I wasted my last mobo.

Do you still have an old motherboard?! It is important - you can try to attach IceEdge to it first, and if not successful, then remove new MOBO backplate, and so on.

Cooler Master Hyper 212 plus (120mm) would not fit into original case. Actually I attached similar 92mm cooler to my MOBO without removal of backplate, but this was a nightmare!

Hah, never thought of it that way. I can perform test expiriments on my old mobo.

Work with means keeping it cool, all top down coolers which have compatible mounting to the original (cooler) rated at 95 watt and 965 is 125 watt....

Actually I advised this sprung solution long time ago, however it is not clear if Thermalight screw diameter is the same as Dell backplate, and no one before wanted to volunteer to be the first one to try, so I stopped offering this solution.
