Yes I have. Also, the USB system works perfectly for my cheap web cam. There are no yellow exclaimation marks; simply a single "Unknown USB device" that gets added above the 6 USB Root Hubs after I connect the camera and it fails.

Where might I find usbreg 2.0. I only find v1.0 on the dell website. Google is equally unhelpful.

Hi, I have the exact issue with my new 8250, I have also the same Canon digital camcorder (MV5iMC), exact same problem of this PC does not seems to recognize the camera.

Did you find the root cause or fix !

I have so far tried everything I could find on this very useful forum (new member).

If problem not fix soon, I am considering returning the system back to Dell !

Any help will be much appreciated.

Still can't get my Dell 8250 to recognize my Canon Camcorder. Please can anyone HELP !!

Just to add some more info, the Canon MV5iMC is the same as the Canon Elura 40MC (US model). As I am based in Europe-Germany.

The Dell Dimension 8250 was purchased a few weeks ago, the spec is:

2.66 P4 with 512 ram, 120G HD, Win XP-Home.

So far I have tried un-install and re-install the supplied SW from Canon several times, no luck!

Installed the Intel 800 Series Integrated Chipset Driver & the VIA Integrated USB 2.0 Driver, no luck.

Re-installed the Canon supplied WIA driver and still no luck !

It seems the Camera is not recognized by the Dell 8250, hence no removeable drive ? or a Camera icon in the Camera & Scanner folder. Just the message 'USB device is not recognized'

I have tried pointing it to a particular driver, but XP will not let me do this.

The DV download from a Firewire card works fine, using an IEEE 1394 card and supplied DV editing SW.

I have the tried installing the SW on my Dell Laptop Latitude and it recognized the Canon Camcoder and runs fine in terms of still digital pic download. So the issue is likely to be the Dell 8250.

Can anyone help ?

Tony T.

The problem is likely related to the USB ports being off an internal hub in the 8250 as it is on my 4500..Some USB devices will not work connected to a USB hub..I am having problems with Ghost 2003 because of this issue..

Interesting, I have been doing a bit of digging around, from Canon web site, Microsoft pages and from Google, there seems to be a wide spread issues with XP and USB devices which are not recognized. I am sure there are also numerious device that does 'plug & play' ! But that does not fill you with confidence with the supposingly latest and greatest Win XP !! It seems the (HW & SW) manufacturers are pointing the finger at each other !

If it's something to do with the internal USB HUB, how can I by-pass or not route through this HUB ? at the expense of less ports may be.

I need to determine if the USB part of the PC is working or I need to return it to Dell soon, the only USB devices I have is a USB memory key and my USB video cam & a Canon i950 printer, I have pluged the USB mem key in all the 8 USB ports and it seemd to have recognized it OK, the printer working fine also, does this mean the USB part of the 8250 hardware is working ?

It is really device dependent..I have an external USB 2.0 enclosure with a hard drive mounted in it and it works fine except with Norton Ghost 2003..Symantec website says that PC's with multiple (more than 2) usb ports run off an internal usb hub built into the motherboard and Ghost 2003 is not able to recongize it..I also have a SanDisk smartmedia reader and an HP 2110 all-in-one that works fine off the usb ports..I had tried an usb-to-scsi converter for my scsi scanner and was not able to get it to work..I now suspect it to be this internal usb port thing..I guess one could install a USB 2.0 pci card to get around the problem..

I am also having similar problems.  I am running XP with SP2.  Any USB device that takes a SD card is not recognized by windows.  I have 3 different computers.  All 3 computers worked fine with the same USB devices that are now not working.  I believe it to be something in the windows updates as that is the only thing that changed since they were working.  The strange thing is that my keyboard, mouse and printer (all usb) work fine.

I cannot seem to find any fix anywhere.
