USB Keyboard and mouse stop working

Question

Hi there   After restarting my machine one day i realised that my usb keyboard and mouse stoped working i havn't. What could be the reason for this? and what can i do to resolve this problem?.   Thank You

The machine is a Dell Dimension C521 running Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP 2

Can you test mouse/keyboard on another system to make sure they still work? Are they wireless? Have you replaced batteries lately? Do you have re-sync wireless devices with their transmiters?

Press F8 before XP starts to load, select Last Known Good. If that doesn't work try Safe Mode on the F8 menu. If Safe Mode works, try a System Restore to lastest date available when things were ok.
