USB Legacy Support
Hi,
I am having trouble finding where to turn off USB Legacy Support in the Bios. I am working with a Dimmension xps_r 450, upgraded to WinXP. The problem I am experiencing is, my system will not boot up when my HP ScanJet 3970 is attached Via USB. I am trying several things to resolve this issue such as, power management in the DM on RootHub, ACPI, and USB Legacy Support. I would greatly appreciate any help you might be able to give me.

There is no option to turn off legacy USB support in the XPS-R series BIOS. It was released long before there was a such thing as bootable USB flash memory devices such as are found in your printer. My only suggestion is to look in the Removable Devices section on the Hard Drive sub-menu and see if there is something you can change their. Keep in mind, however, that since the XPS-R series was never designed to work with the device you have attached to it, you may not get it to work.

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
There is no legacy USB listed for this system but there is a legacy drives section see the following link and this may be the solution to your problem.

Thanks for the information. I have found that the motherboard in this sytem has been upgraded to an Intel SE440BX, which requires a minimum of a 200watt P/S. I believe this might be the "no boot issue" with tha scanner attached, as the system only has a 200watt P/S. I should say that the scanner works fine when you plug it in after boot-up, it just won't let the system or even the monitor boot-up when it is already connected. I would appreciate anymore advice or tips on this isuue.
