USB ports not recognized

I have a Dell Studio XPS 8100 running Windows 7 64 bit OS.  Lately, the PC will stop recognizing that anything is inserted into the USB ports on the front of the PC.  If I do a "restart" or "reboot", then the USB ports and the devices that are plugged into them are again "recognized", and can be used normally.  What is causing this, and what is the solution (so that I won't have to constantly be "restarting the PC")?

Hi Zmarstarz,

What sorts of things are you inserting into those ports? If you try a device and it fails to be recognized, have you then tried a port in back?

Mostly plugging in flash ("thumb") drives into the ports.  No, I don't try to plug into the rear USB ports -- it's just easier to do a "reboot/restart" -- my PC is installed into a desk, where it's not "convenient" to reach the rear USB ports -- and I don't think that I have any "open ports" back there anyway.
