USB Ports

I added the USB 2.0 adapter so that I could have additional USB ports. I thought that I found it at the bottom of the computer, but when I plug in my scanner, the computer doesnt see it. So maybe this is not the right place. So could somebody tell me please just where on the computer this is suppose to be.

Thanks

Cathie

Since you added the adapter card, it should be on the back of the computer immediately behind where you installed it. Did you install the drivers for the card? Did you check to see if your scanner and its drivers are compatible with the new USB 2.0 spec?

I didnt install it..I ordered it with the system, which I got Friday. So I guess the drivers were installed with it, but I am not sure. Does it look like 4 usb ports that run in a straight line?

Thanks for your help.

Sorry, the way your message was worded it sounded like you installed the USB 2.0 adapter card. These USB ports should look like any other USB ports. Note that unless your scanner is USB 2.0 scanner, it will run at USB 1.0 speed. I assume your computer came with Windows XP. Are you sure that your scanner is compatible with Windows XP? Many older scanners are not. Also, a USB device needs to have the software drivers installed before you first plug in the device. So, make sure that you have Windows XP compatible drivers and install them before plugging the scanner into the USB port.

You will have to install the drivers for the card via the Windows Update Site here Go there and check for updates, download and install the drivers.

LOL I wish I could do the installing myself, but I just dont feel really comfortable messing with that stuff. I had a gateway prior to this dell that I bought in October and it was running xp and the scanner ran with that. Our house got hit by lightning in June and maybe the scanner got fried too and I didnt know it. I have not installed the drivers yet because I thought that windows would see the scanner and then prompt me to install it. But I will try the instalation and then see if it can see it. Do you have this adapter on your computer? I just had them put it on because I have a lot of things that use usb ports and I figured the more the better.

Thanks again for the help
