Video Card drivers

Question

hi, im wondering if i could update my drivers on the xps 400. i have the 7900 GS, and im not on a flat panel atm im using the dvi adapter that came with the computer so i can plug in my CRT monitor and i would like to change my hertz for 800x600 and 640x480.i play counter-strike and i want my game to run at about 110 hertz. [kind of new to this stuff] heres the system details   2-Intel® Pentium® D CPU 3.00GHz, 2992MHz 2 gb of ram 250 gb pci-e 7900 gs 256mb   sry if i dont know all of the specs really.   i have screen shots of the add or remove programs and the video card tab   http://img222.imageshack.us/my.php?image=amiabletounstallthislb4.jpg   http://img182.imageshack.us/my.php?image=questiononvideocardxb1.jpg    i really want to update to new drivers because i need the refresh rate overrides tab and i dont have 1 on these drivers. so please help me

id like to update it to a new driver instead of the 84.40 drivers. i think they are old and out of date

yea but. these are the drivers from the dell site that are installed on my pc. the 84.40 drivers and i want to get more up to date drivers like the 84.63 forceware for the 7900 GS. those were on the nvidia website.

yea i know. what im trying to do is unistall the 84.40 drivers from the via dell website that came on my comp. because i dont have half of the Geforce 7900 GS card list like the tabs for Override refresh rates or any of the other tabs. i only have 4-5 tabs i believe and id like to have all of the normal tabs that are on the drivers. so how do i unistall these drivers? Start -> Control panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> NVIDIA DRIVERS. and heres a link to what it shows/says http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/6452/ssszw7.jpg thats the nvidia driver unistall i guess

you don't need to uninstall driver to install the new one but if you want to go ahead and uninstall it there.

you can also dl driver cleaner to clean everything off. http://www.drivercleaner.net/

btw: the search assist thing is a spyware.

NO, NO, NO, - you DO need to uninstall the existing video card driver! To update your graphics card driver, first download the driver you want to install to the desktop - then uninstall the existing driver via Add/Remove Programs, then reboot to the desktop which will load the generic Windows PCI/VGA driver, then reboot into Safe Mode and run Driver Cleaner and select Nvidia, then 'Clean' to remove leftover driver files from the registry. Once done, reboot to the desktop again, then click on the new driver file you downloaded to begin the installation. To help you, just follow the procedure for your nvidia video card here: http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_video&message.id=106755 NOTE: I just noticed an error in the last sentence where Chris says to install the 'ATI driver'.
