Video card E510

Question

Hey guys, I'm new here. I have the E510 that came with the ATI x600 graphics card, which is terrible, even for viewing movies in Windows Media player. I only do a little gaming, but would like to have my system ready if I choose to. I've been researching graphics cards and end up just getting confused. The power supply in the E510 is very low(305w). Basically I want to replace with the best graphics card I can get, WITHOUT changing the power supply. It looks like I also have no more power connections from my PSU in the E510 for a graphics card(the ATI x600 didn't need one) I know my way around the inside of a computer ok. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any replies.

The 7600gt from nvidia is a great dx9 card for your machine and will not require any additonal power connection from your psu.

Conversely if you want a dx10 card (and Vista) then consider the 8600gt also from nvidia.

www.newegg.com has some of the best prices to be found for video cards from XFX, Evga, or BFG to name a few.

Dell for years has under rated their power supplies so don't worry about it. You have more than enough juice.

When switching brands from ati to nvidia and vice-a-versa, it is best to run a utility like drivercleanerpro to rid your machine of any driver remnants after you have uninstalled your current drivers. My link to the free version is bad but I'm certain someone will come along and provide you with a link.

Nevermind, I see that card won't work. The heatsink would take up the PCI slot below it. I just was reading the fan on the 7600 GT was really loud and was trying to avoid it.

No, it takes up two PCI slots. Not enough room or power in the E510. The card I put in is about the best card you can use in the E510 without upgrading power supply and no dual slot cards will work.

Ok, thanks. Well, Dell doesn't sell that particular one and I want to use my credit to purchase one as I'm poor at the moment ;) So, as I go along here I'm getting confused. Any idea what the best card available on Dell's site would be for the E510?
