will not power on
I have received an dimension 4550 that will not power on. The owner was informed that the motherboard was bad, when the power supply is connected the on board led light shows green, but I replaced the board anyways, still no power. I see that the motherboard connects to another circuit board for the front USB and audio connectors, that board then connects to the board where the power is established by pressing the font button. could one of those boards be bad? Im running out of ideas here...

Could be, I totally thought about that. But I am unable to get underneath the button. I wanted to check the connectivity, but I cant get in there. Are you suggesting the problem is with the connectivity, the circuit board it connects to, or the cable? And if so how to I get there?

check the side ended at mb to see the connector is mounted on mb firmly .
Check whether it loosens the connector and white cable?
or unplug the cable and power on with flat driver on the pin 9 and 10 .
not sure pins but sure u need 2pins to get power on with flat driver.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I get no action on the led diagnostic lights, but per the other post you directed me to they also got the led lights on the network card, and possibility the motherboard. Im going to test the power supply, but I don't feel comfortable jumping wires, how do you put them back, I have other power supplies that could be used for test or a ATX power supply tester. If you have more info on jumping the green to black wire to test power supply, I would love to learn how, I just wasn't sure exactly by the given instructions.

I'm having the same problem with my 4550. I bought a new power supply and install it, still nothing but the steady green light on the MB, i think its call the 'stand by power light'. Anyway does anyone have any other ideas what could be wrong? The fan doesn't even start on the power supply when its plugged in. Thanks
I jumper the 'green and black pins' on the 20 pin power cable and the processor fan startup! Powr supply is OK. FYI

Im still working on the issue, I had to stop to fix other comps.ext. If you get any more infor on our issue please let us know. I recently found out the user of the pc had tried a new power supply before he sent it to me. Keep me posted and I'll do the same.

I tested the continuity with both boards removed by attaching the ribbon cable to both boards without fully setting the cable plug into the pins, then I use my meter probes to insert one probe under the plug enough to check each pin, from the switch board to the audio board, I had continuity from one end to the other, so I know that I have a 'good' connection through the cable to the audio board then to the switch board.
To test the power supply, look at the 20 pin plug. You'll see a green wire and next to that is a black wire. Take a paper clip and make a U shape for a jumper. Insert one end into the BLACK pin opening then the other end into the GREEN opening. Plug the power cord into the power supply and the processor fan should startup right away. I'm still looking at replacing my memory stick to see what happens. I'm also trying to find out about the micro processor to see if this has anything to do with it not starting. Hope this help you! PS, I to did not have any diagnostic lights lit 'at all' on my original board either!
