Will this card work for 4700?

Just bought (online):

Radeon X700 Pro Video Card, PCI Express, 256MB GDDR3

for a Dimension 4700. Will it work? If not, what do you suggest in the $100-$150 range? If so, how difficult is it to install?

Many thanks in advance for your time and expertise.

It will work but the better card would be the 6600gt which can be bought for 119 to 200 dollors.

It is easy to install a video card. Put your cursor over desktop at the top of the forum and Click Dimension - Usre Guide and go to your system for instructions. Whether the X700PRO will work in your D4700 is questionable. If you do an Advanced Search you will see a lot of compatibility issues with this pairing. With sales pricing you can probably find an X800GTO or 6800 within your budget.

I think the Moderator's FAQ pinned at the top also offers installation instructions.

I have a Dimension 4700 and also just bought the X700 Pro.  I am having all sorts of problems trying to get the system to recognize the card.  Let me know if you have any problems with it.  I would like to see if it is the card or if the computer is having issues.

I've seen a lot of messages against using the ATI Radeon cards in the 4700s in these forums. I went through this nightmare myself tonight. A little research revealed that the solution was to upgrade the BIOS. The A09 BIOS for the 4700 is in the file D4700A09.EXE and worked like a charm. No need for a new powersupply or anything like that - the card just works. Good luck!
