Win98 driver for Dimension 2300

I had to reformat new Dimension 2300 and install Windows 98, but can't get rid of New hardware found: PCI Universal Serial Bus message upon boot. Where can I get the driver for this, since the machine original came with XP and didn't offer 98?
Thanks. Ohio Dell Fan

It should be in your Windows 98 cd.

...have tried that. Remember this Dimension came preloaded with XP, but I reinstalled Windows 98 SE from another CD. But I've tried to use this CD when it asked for the PCI Universal Serial Bus driver, tried every folder on the CD, no luck...

Are your USB ports 1.1 or 2.0? Are you able to boot up the computer and visit Windows Update to see if it detects the files you need? I did a Google search and found lots of similar problems, but mostly w/Windows 95...

Well, I wimped out and disabled USB controller in CMOS, since this office PC won't have any USB devices connected anyway. Once I get it online, I'll try your Windows Update idea. Thanks.

Easybill,

Thank you for using the Dell | Talk forum.

You need to load your chipset drivers for Win98.
WinXP had the chipset drivers natively built in, Win98 does not.
You are suppose to load the chipset right after you complete the Windows
install. Loading the chipset later may cause problems, but it seems you do not
have any choice at this point. Backup your data in case anything goes wrong.

You can download the chipset drivers here.
