Windows 7 reinstall issues?
Hey folks
I have a Studio XPS 9000 and I'm going to sell it to a friend. Anyway, I thought it would be best to just reinstall windows 7 back to the factory settings to give him a clean PC with all my junk off it.
I have the reinstall DVD that came with the computer, I put it in, restart and it starts booting to the CD drive.. then I just get a white underline blinking DOS cursor at the top of the screen and after about 10 minutes of nothing, this error message pops up
WIndows Boot Manager
Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connect to your computer.
This error can be cause by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by fault hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected than restart your computer."
Anyone have any idea what's wrong? My hard drive is working fine, I have no problems running windows now. The CD ROm is working fine, any CD or DVD I put in the drive works perfectly.
So I'm kinda stumped. Can anyone help?

You PC has (or had) the Dell PC Restore "recovery" partition on the hard drive. It will reinstall everything back to the original factory condition, and no discs are needed. Best way to reinstall.

Great thanks! that worked. I was thinking the reinstall DVD was just a windows disc that I could use to just reinstall from scratch, didn't know it had that hidden partition on the hard drive
