Windows Media Player
Hello everyone,
I found a sound file I would like to use when I exit Windows, but I'm getting an error message. Windows cannot play the C:\Windows\byye.wav file. The file may be damaged or may use an unrecognized compression format. To resolve this problem replace the file or use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel to install Audio Compression. I have the latest Media Player and went to control panel, I already have Audio Compression checked. Just to click on desktop and choose play it plays just fine. But not when I go Control Panel, Sounds and try to set it there. What am I doing wrong? If anyone would like to listen to the file email me and I will send it to you.

I tried that but it didn't work. Any other suggestions?

I'm not sure about this answer, but if MediaPlayer can play the sound Windows may be having a problem finding it to play when you exit Windows. Try putting the file in C:\Windows\Media.
