windows update error

I think an update is stuck in my computer. I cannot get the windows update. "error 0x8DDD0007--This error keeps coming up even after restarting computer again and again. As a matter of fact, there has been a window that has been popping up for over a year that says exactly "Updating your computer is almost complete. You must restart your computer for the updates to take effect. Do you want to restart your computer now? Restart now------Restart later"

well, no matter which you pick, it does not stop this from coming up again and again, after restarts. We have to just move it out of the way so we can get on with working on the computer....because if you click "restart later" it comes back up over and over. If you click "restart now" the computer will restart, but this 'automatic updates' pop up keeps appearing.

Now I cannot get windows to update from going to "start" "all programs" "windows update"

OR

by going to microsoft.com

HELP. (I have windows XP)

Try this first.  It's super-easy and is designed to fix many known Windows Update problems.

Hi error-girl, Have you tried getting to windows update via your control Panel, then change your setting to Download updates but let me choose whether to install them.

You can try looking in the registry, but back it up first.

start > run
regedit

navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update

Look for a sub key called REBOOTREQUIRED and delete it.

Hope it helps.

Thanks Robin, but I have tried this also... for some reason, I cannot access some websites as well, ie to check my email. think it is a virus or my hard drive?

Thanks, but did not help, even though I bought it for 30 bucks.

I have a similar problem, it started after my nephew  installed some registry tweaks without permission and without backing up the registry. Now I can no longer use windows update because it will not complete an installation of any update, 98% and quit saying it is unable to complete. I also have a shiny new zune 120gb and the software for it refuses to install in a similar fashion, I have tried probably 10 or 12 knowlege base methods and no go. I share your pain

Mike
