Wireless Keyboard only partially works
Hi,
I have a strange problem with my Dell wireless keyboard. It will not type characters. I'm using another keyboard to type this, so the computer is Ok.
The wireless mouse works and also the volume control and the "My Computer" button on the keyboard - but no typing!
I tried changing the batteries and also rebooting a few times. Nothing seems to work and Im not sure what to try next (except sending the faulty device back to Dell).
Posting this is my last effort before asking for a new one.
Can anyone help?

You are being reported to the ASPCA and PETA for mistreating your rodent! :)
If you can figure out who actually made the keyboard/mouse for Dell, you might find better drivers at their site. Some times it's obvious because the Dell hardware looks exactly like the manufacturer's own brand items.

I went to Drivers.com and did the Driver Detective and found it to be a generic HID device. After I updated my bios with D8300A07.EXE from Dell, and installed that new driver ~ everything seems okay.
FYI anyone out there has these kinds of wireless keyboard & mouse troubles... a cardinal sign is a red light on the infrared unit ... if you have that .... a bios update is a good idea. I also found the new driver for the SB Audigy sound card needed the bios update FIRST, or it crashes after new bootup after the install. (blue screen of ) I'm sure you all out there in the Forum on DELL Support land have this figured out. I just was slow in getting all the new drivers loaded, and complained before I tried to figure it out. It took one full afternoon to get all the drivers and fix the hardware, but I'm in the "computer a-ok" mode now!
I feel badly about the rodent abuse, I am now in a group therapy for that temper outburst and I'm on step 8 of the 12 step program, I hope I make it. :smileysad: I'm not good at expressing affection but I am trying!

That's a great tip, and I do have th red light - however, my computer is not a Dell, just the mouse and keyboard...:(
