Workstation will not boot after Memory Upgrade

Hello,

I just received a memory upgrade from Dell for my Precision 530. I already 2 256 installed and this was a 512mb chip. I seated the new in the slot. When I turned on the machine, I notice my hard drive light was pegged and I could hear a faint beeping. I reseated all the memory. Took out the new and it still does not come up. Any help would be appreciated.

Memory modules must be installed in pairs: 2 x 256 & 2 x 512
The highest memory modules should reside in slot 1, 2 and lower modules in 3, 4
You cannot install just one, the system will not work.

I am not sure if by installing a single module you may have damaged the other memory modules. Did you install the blank memory clips back on slot 3.4 when you removed the single 512 module?

You can try to remove the 2x256 memory modules, remove the motherboard’s battery for a minute, then insert the battery (It looks like a small flat camera battery) reinstall the 2 x 256 in slot 1,2 and install the memory retainers in the unused 3,4 and see if it works.
