No, you aren't the only with with a crashing computer. I have one too. I have submitted error reports for each and every crash with the promise that I would be contacted within 24 hours. I have yet to receive a response.

I had Win98 on my old computer and it never crashed - NEVER! If you do happen to learn anything productive that might help me and others, please do let us know.

I think its the best, better support the 98 and better direct X features

I've been working with MS operating systems since DOS3. Windows XP is the best and most stable system so far. I've had one older Compaq Presario upgraded with XP (Home) since December and NO "blue screen of death", in fact no hangups at all. I've had some programs die but all I had to do was restart the application.

If you are having the problems you describe there is definately a problem. Either the software needs re-installed or there is a hardware problem.

If you could be more specific on the errors you are receving, and
the specifics of your system, someone on here would be more
than willing to help you work through your problems. The problem
isn't Dell, nor is it XP, it is likely the software you are trying to run.

Crash.. what is that?

You mention compatability. Now that may be your big problem.
Just try running programs that you won't need compatability.

I recently ran the repair mode on my system, after receiving a blue screen memory dump error. The system is now running a good as the day I turned it on, in January. The repair took about 40 minutes and was very easy to navigate. All user settings and aftermarket programs/files were unaffected.

XP has that operating system repair option and that alone makes it worth having, just to being able to avoid reinstalling etc

If your system came with XP from Dell, do a clean install and you will like it. I have 2 Dells 4100 & 4400. Unfortunately both were expensive paperweights until I did a clean install of the OSes. I'm really happy with both. If you want to run all the old games and stuff do a dual boot with W9X.

What is a Dual boot with 9x? I didn't know you could do that. I have resorted to just adding another harddrive with Win 98 and made it compatible with all my Dell hardware. I still have bugs on 98 but I'm working on downloading the rest of my drivers. Its not exactly fun to have to reboot just to run another OS. XP only crashes a million times a day. Whether it just blanks out the program, freezes, or I get that nice blue screen I've grown to admire for it;s persistence. Will Dell Downgrade your operating system?

You might have fewer problems if you remebered to get your computer back into the coffin before sun up!

You still haven't given any specifics on your system or applications you are trying to run. There are some very smart people (not me) on this board willing to help, but you need to give them something to work with besides whining.

Personally, I have yet to crash XP after 10 weeks of use. Only one reboot when my printer got confused about what it was doing about a week ago. I did that for the printer's benefit, not the OS. Also have never been able to crash Windows 2000 at work.
