XPS 200 keeps going into power save mode

I'm having problems with XPS 200 desktop computer automatically shutting down into the Power Save Mode after 5 mins.  After I completely shut the computer system down and reboot it, it works fine. This only happens when I start up my computer when the computer has been cool for a while. My warranty ended last month and on top of that, my modem stopped working and the computer doesn't recognize it. I've noticed other folks posting the same issue wiht their XPS 200 desktop. My power settings are fine and I have disabled the power save mode. Something is going on with this XPS system.

The power save option is complety off. This problem didn't start happening until a week ago. Fortunately my pc doesn't shut down again after I reboot it. I have upgraded to the latest bio as well. My warranty ended just a month ago and I don't feel like spending any extra money to fix it. I'm going to keep an eye on any new postings regarding the same issue.

Hello.  I am having the same problem with my XPS 200.  I have already backed up my data and reinstalled windows XP and it's STILL doing it!  Ugh.  Before I go any further in loading my programs and data I want to insure it's fixed.  Did you have any luck in fixing your pc with the same "enterring power save mode" for no reason at all?  I would appreciate the feedback!  Thank you. t

I have the same problem with my xps 8000 win 7 unit. Did you ever find a solution?

As a matter of fact I did. It turns out, that some small dust balls were accumulating in my cooling fans. Specifically my fan on the video card. Fan sits on the underside of the card, making it hard to see. So I took it out, cleaned it off. put it back in. Never happened since. It was a overheating issue on the card causing the video display to stop responding, giving the problem that was previously mentioned.  So basically, it turned out to be a simple solution. Maybe this will help the rest of ya.

Thanks.  Based on your response, I took a look at the fan on my graphics card.  Sure enough, the fan had stopped running.  I got the fan running again, and it seems to have resolved the issue.  Thanks for your help.
