XPS 420 Internet Problem

Question

I bought a XPS 420 in December and ever since i bought it roughly every 12 hours i get disconnected and i have to restart my computer and unplug my modem and plug it back in and it works fine again. If i don't do that my internet connection will just sit there in its stale state.

Im using Vista SP1

I have a Motorola SB5101 Surfboard Cable Modem

My network device is Intel 825xx Gigabit Platform LAN Network Device, if there is anymore information you need please tell me. Ive done all my updates and Re-installed Vista 3 times and for the past 3 months since i bought this thing i get disconnected every 12 hours. unless i do what i said above. or if i know im going to get disconnected soon i just go ahead and restart/unplug it and that bys me another 12 hours

Sounds like the same exact issue I've been having with my XPS420. I started a thread on the issue here:

A few people have commented on it. I haven't solved the issue, but I did recently remove PC-Cillon anti virus and did learn that when the system loses connection you can go into network settings and disable the onboard network card. Then re-enable it and the connection will start working again. Obviously, this isn't a full solution, but its a start.

Anyone else having this issue??

By chance is it running thro a router?What im getting at here sounds like its trying to get a new ip address.

Like mine i can set it to get a new ip address when i want, every 12 hrs, day,week, mth.

And reseting modem is ssending a new address.

just a thought?

From what I can tell, it looks like (for me) when my XPS420 goes into sleep mode, when I re-reawaken it, it will occasionally not trigger the onboard network card to come back. In other works, when this situation happens I have to go in and disable the card and re-enable it and the network card starts to work.

This also seems to happen occasionally on start up. Disabiling and re-enabling the card resolves the issue when it occurs. Does this sound like a H/W issue or Software issue?

It looks like I solved this issue on my XPS420 with the random internet disconnects.  It appears to be the powersaver mode that is shutting of the onboard network card and then it doesn't always get restarted.  Just disable the powersaver from shutting off the network card and hopefully this will work for you as well.  I have not had this problem since changing this feature on mine.

control panel -> power options -> pick a power plan -> change plan settings -> change advanced power settings ->  wireless adaptor . If wired there may also be a BIOS setting - checking....
