XPS 630i Memory issue

I have a Dell XPS 630i configured to order with a Quad processor, RAID 0, and ATI HD 3870. I'm having an issue with the Windows Experience Index being 4.8 in regards to the Memory. On the POST, I go in to the BIOS and verify that I have 4GB of memory installed across 4 banks. Once logged in to my system, it only shows 3GB of memory.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate installed and fully patched. I've done the BIOS upgrade as directed to 1.0.8 and the ESA performance update... I'm at a loss here. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The 32-bit version of Windows Vista will only support 3.25GB of RAM. That's why it is showing that amount in Windows even though you have 4GB installed in your system. If you download Windows Vista Service Pack 1, it will show 4GB in Windows, but again the 32-bit version can only use 3.25GB. As far as the Window Experience Index, I wouldn't be too concerned. Do you have 800MHz installed in your system? That should show a 5.9 for the memory as mine does.

My memory only reports as 5.0 in the index, A have samsung 800Mhz installed. I have actually spoken to Dell about this and they are suggesting this is normal....

I installed SP1 and it shows 4gb now. My rating is still 4.8 for memory though :(

Any recommendations for good RAM to buy through a 3rd party?

You can go to newegg.com and look for memory. I personally go to crucial.com for my memory. Crucial is a division of Micron. Micron makes excellent memory. You can even configure the right memory for your system. Just go to crucial.com and use the drop-down menus to select the Dell XOS 630i. It will then show the memory that is compatible with your system.

You can't go wrong with Crucial! They also have fast shippping!
