1) What were/are your expectations of the XPS 700?

I expected to get a computer that I could upgrade. I understood that the BTX motherboard would have limited options, and I was OK with that. I did not expect to have to remove part of the front of my 700 to upgrade the sound card.

I expected to have to have an Nvidia 590 motherboard. I wanted FirstPacket, DualNet, and the option to use EPP memory. I do a lot of video editing and better memory would make that much nicer. I did not want to have to use a PCI slot to get another net hook up in it. I network my Xbox to my PC to play online. I also do game online and download so FirstPacket was very appealing.

2) What bothers you about the XPS 700 that was shipped?

What bothered me the most was not getting what I paid for, If Dell was not offering the full Nvidia 590 motherboard they should have informed us of that. In the months we waited and speculated we never received any word from Dell that these features were removed.

3) WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SAY TO DELL THAT WOULD IMPROVE THE XPS 700, MAKING IT THE COMPUTER YOU EXPECTED?

Give us the motherboard you said sold us!

I did a little digging in the FAQ and the old posts about our XPS 700. Here is what I found.

CPU-Z reporting our motherboard as an Nvidia 570.

The FTC looks at what the ad does not say - that is, if the failure to include information leaves consumers with a misimpression about the product. I was expecting an upgradable computer with a chipset leveraged for the future. I expected a high performance gaming rig that was OC'able and supported by Dell.

      2)   DID DELL MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS?

No. It is a nice machine for current games, but it NOT upgradable, barely OC'able and the chipset is awful.

     3)    WHAT BOTHERS YOU ABOUT THE XPS 700 THAT WAS SHIPPED?

The motherboard and BIOS that it was shipped with and the lack of upgradable options to replace it. The 710 mobo is NO upgrade for a gamer.

     4)   WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SAY TO DELL THAT WOULD IMPROVE THE XPS 700, MAKING IT THE

           COMPUTER YOU EXPECTED?

Please, pretty please, with sugar on top. Release a swapable mobo with the 680i chipset and the features enabled, reasonable OC'ing at a fair or discounted price. I love my case, processor and video cards, but the mobo is awful. PS an extra PCI slot wouldn't hurt either. :smileywink:

Dell really needs to answer for this deception. An old chip (570) and an older chip (nf4)don't make a newer chipset (590). Why didn't Dell just come out and tell us that Nvidia made a bad chipset instead of delaying and lying about a lack of aluminum? This is downright criminal and we have the evidence to prove it now. At least they covered themselves with the exclusions on the 710.

Well guys if you haven't noticed by now WE are the only ones doing all the talking.

Dell has yet to say a word about anything.

When you have nothing positive to say, you say nothing, right?

Of course when its the Wall Street Journal asking the questions its pretty darn hard to go deaf; dumb and blind like Dell has when 'responding" to all our repeated pleas for answers.

I guess the only way to get their attention is through the press or the courts.

This can only get worse if Dell continues to stand pat - and mute.

How sad.

Wow. Just Wow. Is that a legit pic of the chip? I have always wondered about that. It is most definitely a criminal act if it isn't even the 590 chip under there.

Looks like they had made some a mistake on their list of available motherboard features cause they removed an "X" from the SLI Ready Memory row that was there earlier.

They won't, GB should have accepted the expense reimbursement since they blew us all off. Since the 710 is out, I had hoped for a mobo swap offer, even though it is only marginally better, it does have a couple of things I want. The BIOS OC on extreme CPU's and the QX6700 support that for some reason the 700 can't do.
Major bummer but I for one will never, ever again tell anyone to get a Dell PC, that will go back towards my old favorite Compaq, now HP with the Voodoo family, or simply an assemble yourself system.
Too bad for Dell, no matter what they think this bad faith from them and then my negative advertising will cost them sales.
I am now looking back to HP for all systems for business as well, servers included. The last 15 servers I bought only 2 were HP. That trend will not continue and I have had my sales rep calling to find out why I'm not ordering and I have not told him yet but I see no reason to stay with Dell any further.

I saw for myself the bait and switch with the financing terms. I once had a customer with the approval page printed out in front of me with the 0% for 6 months. I signed them up for the DPA. So, I know they were approved at the time of purchase. But, their first bill had 22% on there. So, yeah they are guilty as a dog.

Alright Guys....

I havent been gone, just my email address got banned and deem unauithorized on this forum.....maybe they didnt like me, I dont know, but I have a new email address and have become re-validated

Kinda funny how this whole forum has made me have to get another email address.

I have been following the posts since I was deemed unauthorized and, to tell you the truth, likely weould have still not posted. There seems to be too many flame-wars going on and we lost the initial reason for this forum. I appreciate GB keeping us on track (hope the wife is doing well, extend my prayers to StuckinaRut). Here is what has happened since I last posted

Got a call from Lionel to discuss my problem resolution issues which none of the reps could even validate. Gave my list of false/misleading advertising claims and ways to correct them. Was told that legally, until there is a formal announcment from Dell he cannot say anything, but to be patient. Says GB's visit was not in vain. That was over 3 weeks ago.....

Emailed him today and got this

Steps in the right direction, but doenst solve the problem.

New issues:

We need to get some official word from Dell about

1. I want the OFFICIAL word that the BTX will be supported throught the 800

2. I want to know why we were misled

3. I want to know how Dell will rectify

Secondly, the photos of the 570 in a XPS 700 raises serious ethical and legal issues. I specifically asked Lionel about this and he said he would research it. I am not ready to pull my heatsink, but if we were all duped like this (Ill bet we were), then Dell can easily held responsible fro MB replacement. That is proof of false advertising and guess what....we paid for a 590.

Next thing to say is about people like FC....best way to handle--> While he is not the sharpest tool in the box, nor the most eloquent speaker/typer, he DOES have some valid points, just has a hard time explaining himself. But lets just douse the flaming please....its pretty childish. He will only respond if you respond to him.....if you ignore him long enough, he will go away.

I will continue to follow and post as I have news....and If I get angry enough to pull my heatsink, Ill photo it if its a 570 OR 590. If we could all do this.....I think we'd be hard to beat and Dell coundnt ignore it.

Otherwise, Im not going to speculate, flame or argue points. I will tell when I have facts....the photo of the 570...thats fact...I would love the photo of the northbridge

The 710 has the same chipset (as per the reviews) - so this issue would carry over to that platform even if they call it the "NVIDIA® nForce 590 SLITM MCP (D) 2 ".

2 Certain components may differ from the retail version.

Thanks to siroldvolks for these pics. Everyone needs to see these and get the word out. Dell has flat out lied about this chipset. GB, what is your reaction to this?
